NEW ENGLAND CHINESE INFORMATION&NETWORKING ASSOCIATION
July 19, 1997
Dear NECINA Member:
As I outlined at our annual meeting on June 21, 1997, the new NECINA board and
its Operating Committee have decided to expand our activities in the coming
year. These programs will be improved in breadth, depth and diversity in order to
benefit the great majority of NECINA members. In addition to regular SIG
seminars, which you are already familiar with, we intend to organize the following
major events:
1. Tentatively scheduled in the fall timeframe, NECINA will host an industry wide
Technology Roundtable to discuss the most pressing question of how the Internet
infrastructure will evolve in the new few years. We intend to invite industry
leaders representing different views on how to best build the next generation
Internet. Speakers under consideration are Prominent (Gigabit Ethernet),
GigaPacket (GigaRouter) and Cascade (IP Switching). This 1/2 day event will
feature a presentation by each speaker followed by a moderated roundtable Q&S
session on various issues surrounding the emerging Internet.
2. Tentatively schedule in the winter timeframe, NECINA intends to host a special
Leadership development that brings together industry experts in organizational
behavior, human resource, corporate management, entrepreneurial management with
particular focus on the issues and challenges faced by first generation
immigrants from a cultural and leadership perspective. We intend to invite a
researcher/specialist in organizational behavior, a corporate executive, and a
human resource staff specializing in organization and leadership development and
a 1st generation immigrant with a successful corporate management career.
3. Irregular keynote speakers by well known industry leaders throughout the year.
Names that are being considered are Bruce Sachs, CEO of Stratus, Greg Ferguson,
GM of Fore Access Division as well as the founders of Acer Corporation, Kingston
Technology and Yahoo. Some of these leaders will be contacted via our alliance
with the Chinese Information and Networking Association in California.
4. Co-sponsorship with other local alumni associations for outdoor activities such
as outing and BBQ cookouts. The NECINA board and its Operating Committee need
your support to make the above exciting events organized! We are undertaking
an aggressive membership renewal program and corporate fund raising to proper
fund the above activities that hopefully will benefit the great majority of us.
Our fund raising goal for the coming year is $100,000. So far, we have raised
$2,500. Please take advantage of corporate matching fund if your company
supports such a program.
Please take a few moments to fill out or renew your NECINA membership at your
earliest convenience. You can find the mailing instruction from www.necina.org.
For every dollar received from our membership drive, Wufu Chen, NECINA's
chairman of board, has agreed to match dollar-for-dollar.
We look forward to your inputs to make our programs successful. Please send your
inputs directly to me at chengwu@arrowpoint.com.
